Come for the space, stay for the people

In the heart of Newcastle West is a growing community that has an ambition to live a more vibrant and sustainable inner-city lifestyle. Nestled behind the Wickham Foreshore, the urban village within the industrial chic warehouse apartments that connects the residents and visitors, and breathes new life into the historic Newcastle's warehouse district.

Soqué Warehouse Apartments anchors itself on having a great community atmosphere, making it less of another local apartment building but a local village under one roof. Our shared common spaces become a village square with our local hub being Milford Espresso on Milford Street. The resident community have regular seasonal events popping up throughout the year, so always check back here to find out what’s on before you visit.

Small business:
Conjurup Food Company

ISLINGTON-based cook Anna-Jane "AJ" Dalton was looking for ways to use surplus lemons from a lemon-based product she was working on during lockdown when she developed the recipe for her aromatic spiced lemon jam, Confiture de Citron. When restrictions ordered us to stay home, Dalton turned to the kitchen. Cooking kept her busy and sane. "Panic stations, right, COVID. We're locked down. I am here at home. What am I cooking?,"

"It was a prime time for creativity for me because I had a lot of lemons on hand and I was locked down here, and thought, 'Well, I'll just keep playing with them until I get something right'.

The spreadable condiment is an ideal replacement for quince paste on a cheese board.

The fragrant, intense lemon flavour is balanced with the sweetness of sugar and the right amount of spice, and is versatile enough to be used as a glaze on fish, chicken, pork, and vegetables, or add a zesty burst of flavour to sandwiches, toasties, and pizza.

Doggo daycare: Willow Walks

My Name is Willow and I walk dogs. I do all walks between 11am-3pm with my mum or dad to offer your fury friend a boredom busting walk. (Earlier walks can be arranged for dogs prone to heat exhaustion). I can walk any sized dogs, big or small. All walks are accompanied with one of my parents to ensure everyone is safe.

My walking days are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. $10 per walk for a minimum of 30 minutes exercise (sometimes we have so much fun our walks go a bit longer, which means better value for you)

We also do drop in pet sitting for $25 per day. Which includes feeding, walking and 30 mins play time. Stay and play pet vacation sitting for $40. Your pet can come for a sleepover and have full time companionship with walks, play, tv snuggles and bed time cuddles. (House trained dogs only)

Hidden gem: Milford Espresso

Run by Newcastle born and bred local, Vanessa and her family, Milford Espresso has been quietly brewing up a storm for their loyal customers since early 2018. With a vast background in hospitality and retail, Vanessa finally jumped back into the world of cafes when she laid eyes on the vacant spot on Milford Street. “It was vacant for a few months when we drove past one day. We knew instantly it was right. There are 96 units in the building and it’s just a really lovely community”.

Local artist: Kerrie Coles

Former visual arts teacher and practicing artist Kerrie Coles on what she loves about her space in Soqué Warehouse Apartments. “I love our views of the city and the rooftops from our balcony, I plan to sit and paint it one day. As the balcony faces south, it remains beautifully cool in summer and our position on the middle floor means that once it heats up, it stays warm in winter too. I love how safe and secure the building is so that when we travel overseas, we can just lock it up and leave”.

Something More Design

Something More Design is a Newcastle-based design studio specialising in brand identity and interior design for businesses determined to stand out through sharing their unique, multidimensional brand narrative. With strategy anchoring our ideation, creativity propelling us, and our drive to help our clients succeed, we measure our impact by not only helping our clients’ captivate audience attention, but by creating designs that are timeless, functional, and spark an emotional connection that lasts long into the future.

We bring together visual branding and interior design under one roof to create a multi-dimensional brand experience that flows from your logo to your shopfront. It’s not just about the aesthetics it’s about how the brand’s visual elements work together to create a feeling. It’s about using human-centered design, emotion, and intubation, to create something special. In a world fixated on looks, on aesthetics, on images - we are driving deeper. We are wearing brand stories that speak to all the senses. The tangible and impossible to pin down. Texture and touch. Big feelings and small details. Great stories aren’t ones you hear. They are the ones you feel. They are ones that not only move you but grab you by the hand and take you on the journey. And that’s what we are creating.
